Description
With funding from (Artist in the School program) through the Manitoba Art Council and partnering with the Duke of Marlborough school I endeavored to do a special project called Polyptych. Polyptych is creating art on four or more panels. In this case it was canvases. My project was with the high school students and the composition requests were to represent the four tribes of Churchill. The teepee represents Cree, drum - Dene, sash - Metis, and the Inukshuk - Inuit. The composition needed to represent the history of Churchill. So looking at the town of Churchill from Hudson Bay, you will see the train that is very important, the complex (which houses the hospital, municipal, school, recreation center all under one roof), the Anglican church and the Churchills port or grain terminal. The composition also needed to represent it's animals. The eagle, polar bear, beluga whale and arctic fox are shown. You will also find a small fishing vessel. Finally, the composition needs to includes Churchill's beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
Thank you to the high school artist's, principal and teachers of the Duke of Marlborough school who supported this endeavor to complete such a joyful polyptych painting that hangs within the school and is visual for all.
