I was very fortunate to catch this pelican with its black flight feathers down and visible. Usually they are only seen when their wings are spread. I was quite impressed with the show of contrasting wing colours - black and white.

During the breeding season, adults pelicans grow an unusual projection or horn on the upper mandible near the the tip of the bill.
